The Daily Paper

Terms of Service

Last updated October 20, 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and The Daily Paper. By using the app, you accept them. They are written plainly on purpose.

The service

The Daily Paper publishes one edition a day. You may post once a day. A post made today prints in tomorrow's edition as a short article, in the section you picked: your Circle, your Neighborhood, or The World. An editor pass cleans up your text, headline and paragraphs, and never invents facts. You preview the result before anything prints and can always use your own words instead.

Your account

The Daily Paper is invite-only. You must be 13 or older to use it. You are responsible for your account and for everything posted from it. Usernames are unique, and you may hold one account.

Zero tolerance

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and for abusive behavior toward other users. That is not a slogan. The following never belongs in the paper:

Violations are enforced on a ladder. A first violation: the content is removed, or never prints, and we notify the account holder. A second violation: posting privileges are suspended for a period we determine. Severe violations, including sexual content of any kind, threats, and anything that sexualizes or endangers a minor, result in immediate and permanent termination of the account on the first offense, with no warning and no suspension step. We may remove content or terminate an account at any time, with or without notice, when these terms are broken. If you believe an enforcement decision was a mistake, you may appeal by writing to [email protected].

How moderation works

Posts to The World are reviewed by an editor before they print, and all content passes an automated screen. Every article, Note, and profile has a one-tap Report. Every user can be blocked with one tap, and blocking is enforced by the system itself, not just hidden on your screen. We review reports and aim to act on them within 24 hours. Content that violates these terms is removed, and users who post it can be removed from the service. These same rules, and the enforcement ladder above, are printed inside the app on the House Rules page (You tab, House Rules), linked from the signup screen.

Not everything prints

Printing is an editorial decision, not a guarantee. Space is limited, The World holds about ten items a day, and review comes first. If a World post does not print, the whole notice is one line: "Didn't make today's World section." That is a normal outcome, not a punishment, and it carries no strike against your account.

Your content

What you write and photograph is yours. By posting, you give The Daily Paper permission to print it in the editions delivered to the audience you chose, and to keep it in your own archive if you have the Lifetime upgrade. You are responsible for what you post, including having the right to post any photo you use.

The Lifetime upgrade

Lifetime is a one-time purchase of $1.99 made through the App Store. It is not a subscription and it never renews. It includes: no sponsored articles, ever; your My Articles archive kept for you; photos printed in color; and your name on the masthead. Apple handles the payment, and any refund request goes through Apple under App Store terms. Lifetime lasts as long as The Daily Paper is published.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time in the app, under Settings, Delete account. Deletion removes your account and its content from the service, as described in our Privacy Policy.

The fine print, kept short

The Daily Paper is provided as it is. We work hard to print every edition on time, but we do not promise the service will never be interrupted. Our liability is limited to the maximum extent the law allows. We may update these terms; if a change matters, we will say so in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the new terms.

Apple

These terms are between you and The Daily Paper only. Apple is not a party to them and is not responsible for the app or its content. Apple may enforce these terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
