The Daily Paper is a small daily paper you share with people you know. This page says, in plain words, what we collect, why, and what we never do.
The short version
We never sell user data. There are no third-party trackers in the app, no advertising SDKs, and no data brokers. We collect only what the paper needs to print.
What we collect
- Your account: your name, your username, and your email address, so you can sign in and so we can reach you about your account.
- Your neighborhood: your town. At sign-up you can let the app find it with a one-time location lookup, or pick it from a list. Only the town name is kept. Coordinates are never stored, and your location is never tracked. The Neighborhood is off by default and only uses your town if you turn it on. We never ask for or store your exact address.
- What you post: your daily post and its optional photo, printed as an article. Location metadata is stripped from photos before they are stored. Your Notes on other people's articles are kept with those articles.
- Your circle: friend requests and friendships, so your Circle section shows your friends and nobody else.
- Your settings: whether notifications are on, and your appearance choice (System, Light, or Dark).
- Your upgrade: whether your account has the Lifetime upgrade, so the app can apply it. Apple processes the payment itself. We never see or store your card details.
- Safety records: reports you send and people you block, so we can act on them.
How we use it
Only to run the paper: to compile and deliver your edition, to show your posts to the audience you picked (your Circle, your Neighborhood if you opted in, or The World after review), to send the notifications you left on, and to enforce the rules in our Terms. That is the whole list.
Who can see your posts
Only the audience you chose for each post. Circle posts print for your accepted friends. Neighborhood posts show your first name and your neighborhood's name, never an exact address, and only to neighbors who also opted in. World posts print publicly in The World section after an editor review. Your own articles are visible to you.
Service providers
We use hosting and database providers to run the service. They process the data above only to operate The Daily Paper for us. Beyond that, we share personal data only if the law requires it.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time in the app, under Settings, Delete account. Deletion removes your account and its content, including your profile, posts, Notes, and photos, from the live service. If you cannot get into the app, email [email protected] and we will delete it for you.
Your choices
Notifications and The Neighborhood can be turned off in Settings at any time. Appearance can be changed there too. Anything else, ask us at the support address below.
Children
You must be 13 or older to use The Daily Paper. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app and update the date at the top of this page.
